Alpina, the Slovenia footwear maker, has launched a world first in ski footwear, unveiling a revolutionary ski boot for children that allows for greater movement of the foot than the current hard-shelled boots.
Using a special flexible material, the shoe allows greater movement. Although ski boot manufacturers have sought to restrain foot movement until now, Alpina has worked to shift the weight of the skier from the heel to the ball of the foot thus improving balance and allowing greater movement of the foot.
Alpina believes this system is more natural and allows a more effective transfer of force from the foot to the skis, making skiing safer and more enjoyable.
The Be3 shoe, as it has been dubbed, was made using a patented system developed by a Swiss company. Alpina believes it will help it remain the leading producer of ski footwear for children.
This product is a world first and will allow a safer and more enjoyable skiing experience, Alpina chairman Andraz Kopac said at a press conference on Tuesday, 16 November.
The shoe has already been awarded: it secured its designer Jure Miklavc the Slovenian Designer of the Year award.
Alpina will also launch a first in adult ski footwear by providing ski boots of different volumes for the same shoe size. The ACS line is an attempt to make ski boots better fit different feet types.
The ACS line will offer customers the choice of choosing the volume that best suits their feet type also by providing for differences between the left and right foot.
Apart from being a renowned ski boot producer, Alpina is also one of the world's leading producers of cross-country boots.
